How to accurately match the brand with the massage essence oil processing factory - analysis of evaluation dimensions and cooperation process
Finding a suitable OEM factory is a crucial step for a brand to move from concept to product. For products such as massage essence oil, the formula system, raw material quality and filling process directly affect the use experience, so the factory inspection should focus on specific and verifiable indicators rather than general impressions. The following will be discussed from three aspects: factory capability assessment, cooperation conditions, and processes.
1、 Four practical dimensions for assessing factory capabilities
1. Qualifications and hardware are admission tickets
The factory is required to provide business license and cosmetics production license, and verify whether the scope of its license includes the oil products in the "general liquid unit" or "cream lotion unit". On site inspection of whether the filling workshop has an independent oil filling line - as massage oil does not contain water, the equipment needs to avoid cross contamination with water-based products. At the same time, it is important to understand whether the factory has obtained ISO 22716 (Good Manufacturing Practice for Cosmetics) certification, which can reflect whether its quality management system meets the internationally recognized basic requirements.
2. The process of "problem-solving" in terms of formula development ability
Prepare a Brand Requirements Specification to clarify the use scenarios of massage essence oil (such as soothing after exercise and relaxing at night), skin feeling preferences (refreshing or moisturizing) and target raw material directions (such as vegetable oil base or ester base). When interviewing factory R&D personnel, focus on asking the following questions:
What are the improvement plans for the problem of excessive oil sensation or slow absorption?
How to balance the efficacy and color stability of plant extracts?
Do you provide stability test data (such as 48 ℃ heat resistance, -8 ℃ cold resistance, 3000rpm centrifugation test)?
Request the factory to provide development records of similar products in the past (which can be desensitized), and observe whether their problem-solving methods are systematic. Instead of just making verbal promises based on experience.
3. The "process management" of the quality control system is more worthy of attention than "finished product testing"
Inquire about the inspection standards for raw materials entering the factory, especially the acid value, peroxide value, heavy metal and pesticide residue control indicators for vegetable oils and extracts. Understand whether the factory conducts intermediate inspection on each batch of products and whether microbiological and physicochemical comprehensive testing is performed before the release of finished products. Request to review the factory inspection reports of three recent batches of similar products, with a focus on whether the reports are stamped with CMA or CNAS seals, and whether the inspection items cover the requirements of the Cosmetic Safety Technical Specification.
4. Observation points for on-site visits
Notify the factory one day in advance of the visit and observe if their response is clear and organized. When entering the production area, pay attention to:
Is there an independent compartment and dust removal device in the raw material weighing area;
Whether the air cleanliness in the filling room reaches 100000 level or above;
Is the sample room neatly storing product samples for the past three years according to batch numbers;
Did the staff change into clean clothes and undergo air shower when entering the workshop.
These details better reflect the daily management level of the factory than verbal introductions.
2、 Cooperation conditions and business terms
After confirming the factory's capabilities, both parties need to clarify the following cooperation conditions:
MOQ: Massage essence oil is usually priced by kg, ranging from 100kg to 1000kg. The brand should consider its first listing plan and capital turnover capacity;
Cost composition: Clearly distinguish formula development fees, sampling fees, testing fees (anti-corrosion challenge testing, stability testing, etc.), packaging material adaptation fees, and production processing fees;
Intellectual property ownership: It is agreed in writing that the brand has ownership of the formula, and the factory shall not use the formula for other brands;
Exclusive clause: It is agreed that the factory shall not produce identical or highly similar products for similar competing brands during and after the cooperation period;
Confidentiality Agreement (NDA): The raw material supplier information, formula ideas, marketing strategies, etc. provided by the brand are protected by confidentiality clauses.
3、 Collaboration Process (Seven Steps)
Requirement communication: The brand submits a product concept proposal, including target skin feel, core ingredient preferences, packaging form, and budget range;
Factory evaluation: Complete qualification review, R&D communication, and on-site visits according to the above dimensions;
Quotation and sample development: The factory provides a preliminary quotation and produces 2-3 sampling plans for internal evaluation by the brand;
Stability and compatibility testing: After selecting the direction, the factory conducts accelerated stability testing (usually 8-12 weeks) and packaging compatibility testing;
Signing a contract: After clarifying all the terms, sign a contract for commissioned processing;
Trial production and sample sealing: Conduct small-scale trial production before formal production, and the brand side confirms and seals the standard samples on site;
Mass production and delivery: Complete production according to the agreed cycle, conduct full testing before leaving the factory, and provide factory inspection reports along with the goods.
