  • In the segmented categories of the cosmetics market, acne reducing products have become the entry point for many new brands to enter the skincare field due to their clear usage scenarios. For brands lacking self built production lines, finding suitable OEM factories is a crucial step in moving products from concept to physical production. The following text focuses on factory capability assessment, cooperation conditions, and processes for brand reference.

1、 Several dimensions for assessing factory capabilities

Qualification and compliance: check the cosmetics production license held by the factory, and confirm that the license scope includes the "cream lotion" unit. Check the official website of the National Medical Products Administration to verify the factory's sampling records and administrative penalty information over the years. Clean compliance records are the foundation of cooperation.

R&D and sampling capabilities: The factory is required to provide past cases of acne products developed and understand their formula reserves. In the actual sampling process, the brand can propose specific efficacy requirements (such as oil control and improvement of redness and swelling), and observe the engineer's response speed and explanation logic in adjusting the formula. The sampling frequency is generally within the reference range of 3-5 rounds, and too many or too few times may reflect deviations in communication or technical abilities.

Production site management: arrange on-site visits to the factory, pay attention to the zoning identification of the raw material warehouse, the completeness of weighing and feeding records, and the cleanliness of the filling line. Inquire whether the factory has established a raw material batch traceability system and how microbial indicators are controlled during the production process. The on-site management situation often reflects the actual operational level of the quality system.

Quality control system: Check if the factory has the ability to perform tests related to acne cream, including routine items such as pH value, viscosity, heat and cold resistance stability. Understand whether it has commissioned a third-party organization to conduct risk substance testing and the release process before the finished product leaves the factory.

    2、 Cooperation conditions and precautions

OEM cooperation usually involves the following core conditions:

Minimum order quantity: Different factories have different requirements for the production quantity of a single batch. New brands can prioritize contacting factories with reasonable minimum order quantities to reduce the financial pressure on the first batch.

Cost composition: Clearly define the parties responsible for various expenses such as sampling fees, mold fees, testing fees, raw material stocking fees, etc. Some factories will waive the sampling fee, but it will be adjusted through the unit price of the goods in the future.

Payment terms and payment methods: Conventional cooperation adopts the model of prepaying a certain percentage of deposit and settling the final payment before shipment. Brand owners need to negotiate payment terms based on their own financial situation.

Intellectual property ownership: Confirm whether the ownership of the formula belongs to the brand, and whether the factory can sell the same formula to other customers. Suggest incorporating the confidentiality clause of the formula into the contract.

    3、 Collaboration Process Reference

A complete OEM cooperation process can be roughly divided into the following stages:

Requirement communication stage: The brand provides product positioning, skin feel, packaging design and other requirements, and the factory evaluates feasibility and provides preliminary quotation feedback.

Formula development stage: The factory conducts sampling based on requirements, and the brand organizes internal testing or consumer trials to provide modification suggestions until the formula is confirmed.

Filing and testing stage: The factory cooperates to prepare the technical materials required for cosmetic filing, including full ingredient list, production process description, sensory physical and chemical indicators, etc. The brand has completed the product filing/registration procedures.

Trial production and mass production: Conduct small-scale trial production to confirm that the filling, packaging, and other processes are correct before entering formal production. The brand can dispatch follow-up personnel to conduct on-site inspections.

Finished product delivery and after-sales service: The factory provides a factory inspection report, and the brand can send the goods to a third party for inspection according to the proportion after receiving them. Both parties shall establish a regular communication mechanism regarding the follow-up return cycle and raw material stocking quantity.

Choosing an OEM factory is essentially about finding long-term partners with matching capabilities. Brand owners should focus on the actual execution level of the factory, rather than paper promises. Maintaining information transparency and clear standards during the cooperation process helps both parties to jointly polish products that meet market expectations in the niche category of acne cream.
